Former Lexington Resident: Marla Arp (1970-2016)
Celebration of Life Service for Marla J. Arp will be held on Friday, December 30th, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Bill Ohlmann officiating. Interment will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery east of Lexington following the services.
Marla Jean (Van Cura) Arp, 46 years of age, of rural Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 24th, 2016 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Marla was born July 17th, 1970 at Ogallala, Nebraska, the youngest of four children born to Babe and Shirley (Finn) Van Cura. She was baptized as a child and later confirmed in 1983 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington.
Marla grew up in Ogallala until her family moved to Lexington in 1976. She received her primary education from Bryan Elementary and then graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1989.
On August 3rd, 1991, she was united in marriage to Scott R. Arp and to this union three daughters were born: Kayla, Alyssa and Diana. The family resided in Lexington until 2005, when they began to make their home on a farm northeast of Bertrand.
When the girls were young, Marla focused her efforts on being a homemaker and raising their daughters. She was later employed at the Lexington Regional Medical Center in Health Information until 2014 when she decided to be a full-time homemaker.
Marla enjoyed spending her spare time following in her mother’s footsteps quilting, sewing and crocheting. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Scott and making plans for their future. She loved her three girls very much, and had a special place in her heart for her dog, Harlow.
Marla was preceded in death by; her parents: Babe and Shirley Van Cura; mother-in-law, Ramona Arp; and brother-in-law, Danny Arp.
Marla is now with her heavenly Father. She leaves to celebrate her life; her husband, Scott Arp of rural Bertrand; three daughters: Kayla Fulmer and her husband, Chris of Hildreth, Nebraska, Alyssa Arp of Aurora, Nebraska and Diana Arp of Holdrege; two brothers: Randy Van Cura of Logandale, Nevada and Scott Van Cura of Lexington; one sister, Corrine Adams and her husband, Ed of Garden City, Kansas; brother-in-law, Arian Arp of Lexington; uncles: Gary Finn and his wife, Mary of Sutherland, Nebraska and Ernie Finn and his wife, Loida of San Diego, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29th, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Marla’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
