Memorial Established: Jacob J. Bauer, age 60 (1931-2012)

Jacob J.”Jake” Bauer, 60, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Sunday, September 30th, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center, with his family by his side. Mr. Bauer‘s wishes were to be cremated. Private family services will be at a later date. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Mr. Bauer was born October 25th, 1951, at Gothenburg, Nebraska, the son of Jacob O. and Phyllis (Svoboda) Bauer.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife Patricia “Pat” Bauer of Grand Island, Nebraska.

One daughter, Ashley “Ash” Bauer and her fiancé, Ronnie Holroyd both of Grand Island, Nebraska. Two brothers and sisters-in-law, Garry and Carol Bauer of Cozad, Nebraska. Dwain and Lori Bauer of Kansas City, Missouri.

Mr. Bauer grew up in Cozad, Nebraska, graduating from Cozad High School in 1971. He entered the U.S. Army on February 10th, 1971, serving in Germany for two years until his honorable discharge on January 31st, 1973. He returned to Cozad and worked for Paulsen Building & Supply. He married Patricia “Pat” Rhinehart, on May 1st, 1976, at Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in Cozad, moving to Grand Island in 1980. He worked construction until beginning his own business, Jake’s Fine Finish Work, in 1989. He began working in the maintenance department at the Grand Island Veterans Home in 1999, retiring in 2006. In his retirement he worked at Iams for a short time before becoming disabled due to cardio vascular disease. 

Mr. Bauer enjoyed fishing, wood working, biking, and the companionship of his German shepherd, Chief. 

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Phyllis Bauer and grandparents, Ed and Emma Svododa.
