Roger L. Brand, 66, of Hastings, Nebraska, died Thursday, March 29th, 2012, at his home.

Roger was born May 25th, 1945, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Ralph and Velma (Taylor) Brand.

He graduated from Cozad High School in 1963 and attended Central Community College in Hastings. Roger served in the United States Army from September 8th, 1966- June 30th, 1969. After his honorable discharge from the military, he worked for Great Plains Container Packaging from 1973 until 1991. Roger married Patricia Nelson on April 26th, 1980, at Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska. In 1991 Roger went to work for the Hastings Utilities in the water department. He was a member of First Christian Church, loved to fish, hunt and was a member of the NRA.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Deanna Brand; mother-in-law, Lois Nelson; and brother-in-law, Dean Knoedler.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Brand of Hastings, daughters, Michelle Murrell of Longmont, Colorado and Deanna Brand of Hastings; grandchildren, Taya Murrell of Longmont, Gavin Nielsen, Longmont; sisters and brother in law, Virgene Knoedler, Hastings and Sharon and Al Carr, Overton, Nebraska; father-in-law, Byron Nelson, Holdrege; brother-in-law, Edward Nelson, Commerce City, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held (today) Thursday, April 5th, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at First Christian Church, Hastings, with Pastor James W. Gordon officiating.

Private Family Burial will be in Elwood Cemetery, Elwood, Nebraska, at a later date. Book signing was held Tuesday, April 3rd, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Wednesday, April 4th, at 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
