Longtime Gothenburg Resident: Burton N. Beck, age 86 (1926-2012)

Burton N. Beck, 86, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died Saturday, March 24th, 2012, at Linden Court in North Platte, Nebraska.

He was born January 5th, 1926, in Gothenburg, son of Nels and May (Ostergard) Beck.

Burton grew up on the family farm north of Gothenburg and attended Southwest Custer County grade school. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1943. After graduation, Burton lived in Gothenburg and Fremont, Nebraska, he then moved north of Gothenburg to farm. Burton married Leila Johansen on March 26th, 1950, at North Platte; to this union four children were born: Debra, Kenneth, Timmy and Tammy.

Burton was a farmer and rancher and a seed corn dealer. He was a member of the New Hope Evangelical Free Church, the Gothenburg Chamber and a school board member for District 284. Burton enjoyed attending church, going to his grandchildren's activities and visiting with friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Leila Beck; daughter, Debra (Arlan) Jamieson of Wichita, Kansas and their children: Michael (Lizz) and Teresa; daughter, Tammy (Larry) Paulsen of Cozad, Nebraska and their children: Lauren, Drew, Jed, Colt and Jake; son, Kenneth (Kelli) Beck of Gothenburg and their children: Jared (Anna) and children Xander and Addison, Jacob and Jessica; son, Timmy (SueAnn) Beck of Wichita, Kansas and their children: Samantha and Shawn; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Burton was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and May Beck; brothers, Kenneth and Orville; sisters, Fern, Violet and Verna.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, (today) Thursday, March 29th, 2012, at 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., with the family present from 5-7 p.m.
Services will be held at Evangelical Free Church, 1721 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, Friday, March 30th, 2012, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Robert Litzenberger officiating. Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
