Art Jeffers, 89, of Cozad, Nebraska, died Thursday, March 22nd, 2012, at the Golden LivingCenter in Cozad.
Art was born April 16th, 1922, at Valentine, Nebraska, to George "Clyde" and Rosa (Pilfold) Jeffers. He graduated from Valentine High School with the Class of 1940.
Following graduation, Art worked in the family cafe, bakery and ranch at Valentine. He later would enter the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, Art attended Northern Colorado University where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degree in education. Art went on to teach school in Vernon, Colorado and Lexington, Nebraska. He would eventually serve as Superintendent at Woodlake, Maxwell and Madrid, Nebraska. Art later worked as Director of Field Services and State Fund Coordinator for the Nebraska Heart Association for seven years. Following his time with the Heart Association, Art returned to schoolwork as Superintendent at Ewing and White River, South Dakota. In 1980, he moved to Cozad where he opened the Daylight Donut Shop, which he operated until his retirement.
Art was a member of the Nebraska Teacher's Association and the Lion's Club.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond and infant brother, Hubert.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Marjorie Jeffers and nephew, Gary Jeffers, both of Arizona; and the many friends that he made throughout his career in education and time in Cozad.
A visitation for memorial book signatures will be held (today) Thursday, March 29th, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Private inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Valentine, Nebraska. There are no services scheduled at this time.
