U.S. Army Veteran: Vern White, age 94 (1917-2012)

Vern White, 94 of Cozad, Nebraska, died Wednesday, February 29th, 2012, at the Golden LivingCenter in Cozad.

Vern was born August 26th, 1917, at Eustis, Nebraska, to William and Olive (Williams) White. He attended school at Eustis.

In 1941, Vern entered the U.S. Army where he served in WWII. He was stationed throughout the South Pacific until his discharge in December of 1945. Less than a month later, Vern married Wilda Applegate at Norton, Kansas on January 21st, 1946. The couple made their home northwest of Cozad, where they farmed and raised their family.

Vern was always soft-spoken and mild-mannered. He was a good and loyal friend to those who got to know him well. He had a great love for horses and the land that became his life's work.

Vern rode horses with the Plum Creekers for a number of years.

Vern was preceded in death by his daughter, Laraine Cullers; his parents; six brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Wilda White of Cozad; daughter, Verla (Jay) Ringenberg of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Todd (Pam) Laird of Whidbey Island, Washington, Ramona Laird of Beatrice, Nikki (Kelly) Wilken of Tea, South Dakota, Tony (Audra) Ringenberg of Lincoln; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside inurnment services were held on Monday, March 5th, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at the Cozad Cemetery with Pastor Mike Dennis officiating.
