Former Cozad Resident: Bernice A. Jensen, age 71 (1940-2012)

Bernice Annette Jensen, 71, of Benkelman, Nebraska, died Tuesday, January 17th, 2012, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Bernice was born on July 9th, 1940, in Benkelman to John Benjamin and Karen Hancina (Hoff) Foster. She graduated from Benkelman High School in 1958 and attended Kearney State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school for a number of years.

On August 27th, 1961, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Jensen. They made their home in Cozad, Nebraska. Bernice moved to the Benkelman community in 1996.

Bernice was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church Circle in Cozad and Modern Homemakers Club. She loved to do all kinds of crafts, read and sing. She also enjoyed her time working with the elderly and Alzheimer patients.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Karen Foster; sister, Dorthea Foster; and brothers, Donald, Leonard, Harry and Lloyd Foster and three infant brothers.

Survivors include her son, John Jensen of Broken Bow, Nebraska; daughters, Karen and husband, David Wilson of Kimball, Nebraska and Kathleen and husband, Jason Jackson of Sioux City, Iowa; sister, Caroline and husband, Willard Pearson, of Brady, Nebraska; special friend, Sylvester Gallington of Parks, Nebraska; and six grandchildren, Ben, Josie and Ariel Jackson, David Wilson Jr., Ryan Wilson and wife, Jenny and Kaitlin Wilson.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Graveside services were held Monday, January 23rd, 2012, 1 p.m., at the Benkelman Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Fong officiating. Burial was in the Benkelman Cemetery.

Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman was in charge of the arrangements.
