The Lexington netters competed against some of the best tennis players from across Western Nebraska in the North Platte Invitational on Saturday.
As a team, the Minutemaids finished third with 44 points, just one point behind runner-up Grand Island with 45 points. Kearney was the team champion with 59 points overall.
“The fact that we are still young and learning and more importantly have had limited practice time with the weather, makes me pleased with the efforts of these girls,” expressed Lex head coach Ernie French.
The duo of Ellie Hobelman and Zoie Allen finished as the runner-up at #2 doubles, being defeated by Kearney 8-0 in the final round after wining four straight matches.
Playing at #1 doubles Kelby O’Meara and Katelin Schultze finished fourth overall. O’Meara and Schultze notched a pair of victories early, only to be edged by McCook 8-5 in the semifinal round. In the consolation finals, the Maids duo were defeated by Holdrege 8-3.
Hannah Ostrom finished fourth overall at #1 singles, as Scottsbluff 8-3 edged her in the consolation final round.
Competing at #2 singles, Freshman Lille Fattig was fourth as a result of being defeated by Hastings 8-4 in the consolation finals.
