Honored by one of the greatest football players in Nebraska, Haymaker standout Jake Paulsen received the 2013 Johnny ‘The Jet’ Rodgers Over-The-Top Award on Thursday.
In a joyous event that was held at the Ralston Arena, Paulsen was honored along with Omaha North’s Calvin Strong as the high school recipients of the Over-The-Top award.
Paulsen ran for a Class C1 best 2,534 yards in 2013, averaging 10 yards per carry and pushed his career total of rushing yards to 5,595 yards. Paulsen eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark the last three seasons.
“A lot of teams would go in with the idea of stopping Jake,” expressed Cozad Head Football Coach Brian Cargill. “It opened up a lot of things for us. As the game went on, we were able to give Paulsen his carries and he always did a good job.”
Along with Paulsen and Strong, another pair of gridiron standouts were honored on Thursday, Stanford University’s Ty Montgomery received the 2013 Jet Award and Omaha Westside alumnus and former NFL and Nebraska standout Pat Fischer received the The Jet Legacy Award.
