Lois Marie Anderson, 89, of Lexington, Nebraska, died on Friday, January 24th, 2014, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington.
She was born October 16th, 1924, in Murdo, South Dakota, to Fred W. and Marie L. (Coyne) Chatterton.
Lois started school in Jones County, South Dakota, until the fifth grade when she and her family moved to Morrill County, Nebraska, where she graduated high school from Bayard High School, class of 1941.
She was united in marriage to Vyrl M. Anderson on April 17th, 1943, in Norman, Oklahoma, while Vyrl was going to Navy training. Two children were blessed to this marriage; Sharon and Robert.
The couple lived on the west coast while Vyrl was stationed in the Navy, returning in 1945 to Lexington. Vyrl and Lois owned and operated, along with his two brothers, the Gamble’s Store in Lexington.
Lois worked as Clerk of the District Court for 35 years. She was honored by being selected to be in the “Who’s Who in Nebraska” the Bicentennial Edition, in 1976.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, a charter member of the Dawson County Legal Secretary’s Association, as well as the Nebraska Legal Secretary’s Association. She was named Dawson County Legal Secretary in 1972. She served on the Lexington Housing Authority Board, the Republican Women and the Plum Creek Bowmen Archery Club.
Lois is survived by her son; Robert and wife Sandra Anderson of Lexington; sister-in-law, Helen Chatterton of Bloomington, Indiana; one niece, Dixie Gierhan of Lakewood, California and three nephews, co-workers and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vyrl; daughter, Sharon; two brothers, William and Lloyd Chatterton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, one niece and one nephew.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, January 29th, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating.
Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Donor’s Choice.
