Former Johnson Lake Resident: Maxine Schlientz, age 84 (1928-2013)

Maxine M. Schlientz, 84, of North Platte, Nebraska, formerly of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, died Wednesday, May 8th, 2013, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

She was born November 2nd, 1928, in Depew, Oklahoma, to Merrill L. and Nona Edith (Holton) Southworth. She moved to Kansas when she was a young girl and graduated from Chase High School in 1946. On January 21st, 1947, she was united in marriage to Charles R. Schlientz, in Hoisington, Kansas. Five children were blessed to this marriage; Teri, Toni, Cristy, Kelly and Kent.

Chuck and Maxine moved to North Platte in 1947 and in 1959, settled in Lexington, Nebraska. In 1974, the family moved to Johnson Lake. Many happy memories were made while living at the lake.

Maxine was always active in her children’s lives as well as her church.  She was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington where she served as the youth choir director and Men’s choir director for 10 years and was a 50 year member of the Chancel choir.  She was also a member of the Lexington Women’s Bowling Association since 1959, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rainbow Garden Club. She also spent 10 years making ladies beautiful by being an Avon representative.

She loved playing cards, painting pictures and spending time with her family. Maxine had a wonderful sense of humor which will be missed by her many friends.
Survivors include five daughters; Teri (Bob) Vasko of Riverdale, Nebraska; Toni (Larry) Smith of Lexington; Cristy (“Bud” Milner) Schlientz of Lebanon, Indiana; Kelly (Steve) Thomalla of North Platte; one son, Kent (Val) Schlientz of Lincoln, California; one sister, Juanita Hughes of Morrow, Ohio; eleven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck in 1991; sister, Alice Brush; and two brothers, Donald and Robert Southworth.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 11th, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Reverend Tess Hufford officiating.

Burial will be held at 2 p.m. at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte.

Visitation will be Friday, May 10th, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the Johnson Lake EMS or the Donor’s Choice.
