Swedes Fast Start, Strong Finish Powers Past McCook Hoopsters
A Swede fast start and strong finish was more than enough needed for Gothenburg to surge past McCook and earn the 64-47 victory on the Bison’s home hardwood on Tuesday evening.
Doing their best to create a scoring storm of their own the blitzkreig attack of the Swedes netted a 15-10 lead as the action reached the initial eight minute mark of the contest.
The scoring efforts of the Gothenburg shooters did not simmer during the second quarter. Scoring in transition as well as in the half court, the Swedes stood strong to the tune of a 31-24 lead at the halfway point of the contest.
Benefitting greatly from the lockerroom chalk talk, the Swedes cashed in on their scoring opportunities to flex the net for 19 points during the third quarter which in turn increased the Gothenburg lead to 50-37 with just eight minutes remaining in regulation.
During the final frame of the contest, the Gothenburg offense worked their magic on offense, looking for quality possessions and on the flipside, stood strong and limited second chance scoring opportunities. The Swedes continued to flourish on the offensive end which resulted in a 14 point effort for Gothenburg to cruise to the convincing 64-47 win over host McCook.
Gothenburg guard Dawson Graham scored a team-leading 22 points to go along with six assists.
Making his presence felt in the paint, Swede Ty Clement had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
