Cozad Resident: Harold Schneider, age 82 (1930-2013)

Harold Schneider, 82, of Cozad, Nebraska, died Friday, February 8th, 2013, at the Cozad Community Hospital.

Harold was born February 12th, 1930, at Lyman, Nebraska, to Henry and Mildred (Schilreff) Schneider. He attended rural school in the Cozad area and went on to graduate from Cozad High School with the class of 1948.

On February 12th, 1950, Harold married Blanche Stauffer. Their union was blessed with four children, Vickie, Randy, Paula and Marla. They made their home in rural Cozad, later moving to Overton, Nebraska and Holdrege, Nebraska. The family returned to Cozad in 1956; throughout all of their moves, they farmed and ranched. Blanche passed away in November of 1987 and following her passing, Harold began transitioning away from farming.

One of Harold’s favorite pastimes was polka dancing; and one evening at a dance in Ogallala, he met LuAnna (Plymell) Shill through some mutual friends. The couple shared a love for polka and dance and developed a relationship that culminated in marriage on February 12th, 2001 at Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Cozad and would enjoy countless dances to follow, even travelling to multiple states, until Harold’s health would no longer allow.

Harold was an outdoorsman at heart, and thoroughly enjoyed hunting. It wasn’t uncommon for him to travel throughout the United States to spend time on a big game hunt.

Harold was a past member of the Parkview United Methodist Church in Cozad.
