Former Lexingtonite: Robert Martin Ottman, age 86 (1926-2012)

Robert Martin Ottman, 86, of Kearney, Nebraska, died Wednesday, November 7th, 2012, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was born September 26th, 1926, at Maxwell, Nebraska, to George and Francis (Howarton) Ottman.

After his schooling, he joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years. He married Leona Brown on December 30th, 1950, at the United Methodist Church, in Lexington, Nebraska. He would work in the propane service department for Lexington Coop Oil Company for more than 30 years. He also helped Del Brock as an electrician and Simplot Fertilizer for a few years. In 1983, they moved to Kearney and he would work for Kearney Public Schools as a Custodial Engineer. He was a member of the American Legion and past member of the Eagle's Club, both of Kearney and the Christian Church of Lexington. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and watching sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leo Ottman, sisters: Leona Agnew, Lula Arnold and Evelyn Beins.

He is survived by his wife Leona Ottman of Kearney; Daughters, Linda and husband Steve Rath, of Elwood, Nebraska, Diana and husband Dwight Lindskov of Imperial, Nebraska; Nita and husband David Worthen of Covina, California, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

There will be no viewing or visitation. Graveside services were Thursday, November 15th, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, in Maxwell with Pastor George Probasco, officiating. Military rites will be given by the North Platte American Legion and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
