Leon E. “Jack” Jones, 92, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Thursday, November 1st, 2012, at Lexington Regional Hospital in Lexington.
He was born January 4th, 1920, in Wilsonville, Nebraska, to Edward and Mary (Duling) Jones. Jack and his family moved to Chambers, Nebraska, when he was thirteen years old.
Jack was a United States Army veteran who served his country during WWII. He served overseas in the European Campaign. He was honorably discharged on September 23th, 1945.
Jack was united in marriage to Ethel Butts on October 13th, 1945, in O’Neill, Nebraska. Four children were blessed to this marriage; Sharon, Larry, Vickey and Brad. The family moved to Lexington in 1951.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Ethel Jones of Lexington; son, Brad (Bernadette) Jones of Lexington; daughter, Vickey (Frank) Koehn of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; brother, Bob (Neva) Jones of O’Neill; sisters, Earleen (Tom) Moroney of Grand Island, Nebraska, Ruby Grubb of South Dakota and Shirley Noble of South Sioux City, Nebraska; son-in-law, Harley Nelson of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Linda Jones of Elwood, Nebraska; ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Jones; daughter, Sharon Nelson; sister, Esther Homolka; and granddaughter, Stacey Nelson.
Funeral Services were Monday, November 5th, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Lexington Christian Church in Lexington with John Jones, Lay Minister officiating.
Burial with Military Honors was in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department or the Donor’s Choice.
